Cecilia Cano-Daly is a print-based artist primarily exploring material processes, thinking of her creation as a collaboration between herself and the techniques she employs. She embraces the process and experimentation intrinsic to printmaking, often playing with the balance between control and chance. Cecilia is interested in psychogeography, the concept of studying how urban space influences emotions and behavior. She engages in these laborious techniques as a way to slow down, utilizing analog, or even obsolete, technologies to push the boundaries of her engagement with the city streets. Her prints work to inspire a meditation on the particularities of urban landscapes, encouraging viewers to slow down, meander, and observe. Her employment of experimental printmaking sparks curiosity, excitement, and maybe even confusion. It is in this moment of wonder that she hopes the viewer may find refuge from the banality of everyday life. It is through play and exploration in the printshop that she finds refuge.
